"Thanks for the truth. I avoided $8.00 per night in extra fees on hotels.com, and found a lower rate on your site. Keep up the honest work!"
Jan M. Madison, CT
"I just used your on-line booking to obtain a government rate for the U.S. Attorney for the District of Minnesota at a hotel where they could not give me that same rate over the phone. This is almost too good to be true, but it certainly made my day. "
Jean, Minneapolis, MN

Downtown Hartford is Connecticut’s capital city. The state capitol building is topped with Gothic spires and a golden dome. Next door are the state library and supreme court buildings. They all face onto the Bushnell Park, which features a bandstand used for many outdoor concerts, as well as a working merry-go-round carousel with 48 hours. A 1925 Wurlitzer band organ plays music on the carousel which dates back to 1914.

The insurance industry was first established in Hartford when the Hartford Fire Insurance Company opened in 1910. The city is still regarded as the nation’s insurance capital and the skyline is comprised of the biggest insurance names, including St Paul Travelers, the Hartford Company, Phoenix Home Life Mutual Insurance, Aetna and others remaining as major employers.

Hartford was the home in the mid-1800s of some of the nation’s most ardent abolitionists. Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of "Uncle Tom’s Cabin," lived in downtown Hartford, and her home at 77 Forest St. is a well-visited landmark. Her neighbor of the time was Samuel Clemens, better known as Mark Twain, who wrote his landmark novels Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn while living there. His home can be visited at 351 Farmington Avenue.
