Mark Twain House

The unusual 19-room Victorian Gothic house, built 1873-74, was occupied by the author for 17 years. Designed by Edward Tuckerman Potter, the orange and black brick mansion has towering turrets and large porches. In 1881, Twain commissioned Louis Comfort Tiffany's design firm to decorate the first floor. Interior decorations include elaborate stencils and carved woodwork; collections include some 50,000 items belonging to the author and his family.
