The museum overlooks the Fine Arts Gardens, with its seasonal flower displays. A permanent collection of art encompassing more than 6,000 years is displayed in 70 galleries. Works range from Egyptian artifacts to contemporary art. Especially noteworthy are collections of Asian and pre-Columbian art. Paintings include those by Caravaggio, El Greco, Frans Hals, Michelangelo and Peter Paul Rubens as well as Impressionist masterpieces by Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, Pierre Auguste Renoir and Vincent van Gogh.
