Philips Arena, home to the Atlanta Thrashers, Atlanta Hawks and Georgia Force, opened in September of 1999 as a state-of-the-art multipurpose sport and entertainment complex. The CNN Center, Centennial Olympic Park and Georgia International Park are all within the vicinity of the Arena.
Covering 4.4 acres, the Arena can hold a little over 18,700 fans for both hockey and basketball events and over 21,000 for live concerts. With 8 giant TV screens placed strategically throughout the Arena, it's hard to say that there's even just one bad seat in the house. The Arena has 92 Private Suites, 9 Party/Rental Suites, 1,866 Club Seats, 26 Public Restrooms, 23 Food Concessions, 4 Restaurants/Clubs and 12 Retail Outlets.
The Philips Experience is a 10,000 square-foot space of the Arena featuring 5 different interactive hands-on activities for all visitors young or old. These activities include the Interactive Alley which allows visitors to access 8 different website and television channels at any of the 6 stations which is then projected onto a large screen for easy viewing; Ready, Set, Shoot gets fans to take their best shot at a slam dunk capturing every move made onto projected screens for all to see; Shot on Goal allows the fan to see what it would be like out on the ice with a hockey stick in hand testing their skills against a computer simulated goalie; Digital Dream Set is an exhibit that plays on fantasy, allowing the fan to see themselves on television surrounded by well-known backgrounds and celebrities, which can then be transmitted to anyone via e-mail worldwide; and finally, the Screen Test allowing the fans to re-enact the Philips television commercial where the Philips Flat TV monitor is mounted on the ceiling. A photo of this too can be transmitted via e-mail to anyone worldwide.
Besides the Philips Experience, you will also find other facilities such as the Hawk Walk, Headlines Bar & Grill, Bank of America Club, Center Club, Guest Sales & Services Center and the Team Gear Store.
The Philips Arena, full of promise and success, is foreseen to be the main hub of activity for downtown Atlanta.
