The University of New Mexico was founded in 1889. The campus sits on 600 acres and mimics the buildings of the nearby Pueblo Indian villages. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution, UNM represents a wide cross-section of cultures and backgrounds. The Hispanic Magazine has ranked UNM among the top 25 colleges and universities for Latinos within the State.
UNM is known for its outstanding faculty members. Many have been published in professional journals, quoted in well-known newspapers and provided their expertise on major television news broadcasts.
UNM's libraries, museums, galleries and Center for the Arts are a rich cultural resource for the State. The nationally recognized Campus Arboretum offers an outstanding botanical experience in the midst of one of New Mexico's great public open spaces.
