Albuquerque Biological Park - Albuquerque Information

Albuquerque Biological Park

The Albuquerque Biological Park consists of four different venues; the Albuquerque Aquarium, Rio Grande Botanic Garden, Rio Grande Zoo and Tingley Beach.

At the Albuquerque Aquarium you can visit the Touchpool and get a chance to interact with the hermit crabs and starfish that live in an aquarium; watch as the fish and turtles get feed in the Shark Tank by divers; take the BioPark Nature Guide Tour and learn about the ocean and the life that dwells beneath, or listen to Captain Lucky's Salty Sea Tales of sea life. There is plenty of sea faring activities for all to do at the Aquarium.

Another facility at the park is the Rio Grande Botanic Garden. Covering over 20 developed acres; it includes a 10,000 square foot glass conservatory. The Garden also houses the PNM Butterfly Pavilion with hundreds of butterflies and moths that fly among you when you walk through the indoor gardens. Don’t forget to visit the Heritage Farm, where visitors can take a trip back in time to farm life along the Rio Grande in the early 1900s. Here you can take an old-fashioned buckboard wagon, meet Professor Botanica and learn about herbal remedies and plant secrets, or take the BioPark Nature Guide Tour.

At the Rio Grande Zoo you can meet exotic and native animals, watch the seals, sea lions and polar bears get feed or even take the Thunderbird Express Train ride around the zoo. The Africa Exhibit, the Gator Swamp Exhibit, the Naked Mole Rat Exhibit and the Tropical America Exhibit are some of the new exhibits at the Zoo. For entertainment, visit Zoo Music, where a medley of music is played for all to enjoy. There are also plenty of shops and restaurants throughout the Zoo.

Lastly, Tingley Beach features three fishing ponds stocked with rainbow trout and catfish for the avid fisherman. If fishing isn’t for you, you can take a ride on a pedal boat around the lake or bicycle though the beautiful Rio Grande Valley State Park. Tingley Beach Outfitters sells everything from fishing and hunting licenses to souvenirs. Stop at the Tingley Beach Cafe for lunch or snacks.
